Why choose a pediatric dentist?

Dentists who choose to go into pediatric dentistry must complete an additional two or three years of special training upon completing dental school to learn how to care for children and their oral health. Pediatric dentists are well equipped to cater to the special needs of children and teens, and they typically really enjoy working with kids as well, making visits better for everyone!

At what age should a child begin visiting the dentist regularly?

As a general rule of thumb, children should begin seeing the dentist regularly from the time they turn one or when their first tooth grows in, whichever happens first. If your child has passed these milestones and hasn’t seen a dentist yet, we don’t want you to worry too much about it, but we would recommend making an appointment with us at your earliest convenience.

How can I help my child avoid cavities?

Some dental problems are more or less unavoidable, but cavities can often be avoided by following a few preventive measures. Our team suggests you should:

  • Ensure that your child is brushing and flossing regularly and visiting the dentist twice per year.
  • Utilize fluoride treatments and/or dental sealants to give your child’s teeth extra protection.
  • Limit the amount of sugary foods and beverages and opt for healthier options instead.

Do you accept emergency visits?

Should a dental emergency occur in your family, Tots to Teens Pediatric Dentistry accepts walk-in appointments. If your child has an unbearable toothache, a fractured or knocked-out permanent tooth, or uncontrollable bleeding from the teeth or gums, please bring them in as soon as you can. If they endured a severe blow to the head or have a fractured or broken jaw, take them to the nearest emergency room right away.

How long should I take my child to see a pediatric dentist?

Tots to Teens Pediatric Dentistry accepts and welcomes patients between the ages of zero and eighteen years old! However, we do offer orthodontic services for patients who are over eighteen, so if you are interested in getting braces while your child is a patient with us, just let us know!
