How common are pediatric crowns?

Tooth decay is one of the most common chronic childhood diseases, so kids’ dental crown treatments are probably more common than you think. While we always hope that children won’t need dental crowns, our team is experienced at creating and placing pediatric crowns. If you believe your child may have some untreated tooth decay, we recommend scheduling a visit with our team so we can diagnose and treat the issue as soon as possible.

Is it normal to put stainless steel crowns on baby teeth?

It is perfectly normal to use stainless steel crowns for baby teeth. In fact, stainless steel dental crowns are the preferred restorative option for children due to how durable they are. Silver crowns are also more cost-effective than tooth-colored crowns. Some parents prefer that their children receive tooth-colored dental crowns, especially if it’s a front tooth that needs to be repaired. Both are excellent restorative options, and both are available at our practice.

Are kids’ dental crown procedures painful?

Before we make any modifications to your child’s tooth, a local anesthetic will be injected into their gums to completely numb the tooth and the area around it. Your child will feel a small pinch as the anesthetic is administered, but then the treatment is completely painless. They may feel a little pain after their appointment, but an over-the-counter pain medication should be enough to relieve their discomfort. We also offer kid-friendly dental sedation that helps kids stay calm during their visits.
